Keyboard FAQ

How do you sync a keyboard?
All keyboards are slightly different, but the same concept applies.

The process to sync a keyboard typically goes like so:

1. Place working batteries into the keyboard. Make sure the batteries are installed CORRECTLY.

2. Plug dongle into a working USB port on your computer, then allow a few seconds for your computer to recognize the hardware. The dongle will start to blink and you will have approximately FIVE seconds to connect the keyboard.

3. Make one solid depression on the CONNECT button on the keyboard. The blinking light on the dongle should stop blinking.

4. The keyboard should now be functional and synced to the dongle. If keyboard still does not work, then repeat the entire process.

Also, some keyboard models may enter into sleep mode to conserve battery life. Once a keyboard is in sleep mode, it may only be awaken by pressing any key. Moving around the trackball/touchpad will not wake keyboards that are currently in sleep mode.

Why does my brand new keyboard output numbers instead of letters?
Most of the keyboards default with NumLock turned on, so some keys (i.e. U-I-O) will output numbers instead of letters at first. You may have to press "Fn + NumLock" in some cases. Some keyboards have FnLock, so make sure that is not turned on either. Many keyboards also have an 'auto-sleep' function to conserve battery life. If this happens, press any key on the keyboard EXCEPT the sync button or trackball/touchpad to wake it up.

What is a PS/2 connection?
A PS/2 connector is a round connector with six pins that some models of computers use for the keyboard or mouse connection. There are two sizes, one with a diameter of about 1/4 inch and the other with a diameter of about 3/8 inch. In recent years, the Universal Serial Bus (USB) connector has largely supplanted the PS/2 connector, especially for use with a mouse.

What is a USB connection?
Today just about every computer comes with Universal Serial Bus, or USB ports. In fact, many computers will even have additional USB ports located on the front of the tower, in additional to two standard USB ports at the back. In the late 1990s, a few computer manufacturers started including USB support in their new systems, but today USB has become a standard connection port for many devices such as keyboards, mice, joysticks and digital cameras to name few USB-enabled devices. USB is able to support and is supported by a large range of products.
